Michelle Flynn is a professional artist and writer whose work may be seen throughout the United States and Canada. She has exhibited in numerous galleries and shows, including, the San Diego Art Institute, Wild Wings Gallery in MN, Theodore Gordon Fly Fishers show, Southern California Exposition of Art, Palo Alto Museum of Fine Arts, Boulder Museum of Art, Coyote Point Museum for Environmental Education in San Mateo, CA, the Sun Valley Arts and Crafts Festival, the Elkhorn Arts Festival, and Ducks Unlimited art auctions. In addition, she also taught at the Sun Valley Center for Arts and Humanities, and was a judge at the Elkhorn Arts Festival.Book illustration credits include Joan Wulff’s Fly Fishing/Stackpole Books, Robert Traver’s Trout Madness/Easton Press, and McGraw-Hill’s educational division. She wrote and illustrated Western State Wildflowers, and Legends of the Little People, and was a contributor to The Artist's Friendly Legal Guide. Some of her magazine credits are The Fly Fishing Show brochure, International Society of Artists Communicator, Northlight, Flyfishing the West, Idaho Wildlife, Fly Fisher, Field and Stream, Angler's Art catalogs, Fly Fisherman, Warmwater Fly Fishing, and the HMS Beagle. She also wrote and illustrated a magazine column on wild plants. Her poetry has been included in various anthologies, and song lyrics.
She won the First-of-State California Wild Trout Stamp competition, and has that work in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fly Fishing, and the Orvis Corporation. Other credits include first and second year posters for the Nature Conservancy Silver Creek Preserve, greeting cards, book plates for private libraries, letterheads, and set and costume designs for various theatre productions.
Michelle attended San Diego State University, majoring in geology and art, and also studied through the years with private artists whose styles ranged from abstract to realism. Much of her work is characterized as abstract-realism.
Until recently, Michelle was staff artist for the magazine Warmwater Fly Fishing / Abenaki Publishers, and is currently putting together a solo art show of oils, watercolors, drawings, and sculpture. In addition, she is writing and illustrating her third book, freelancing art and stories for magazines and webzines, and doing research, updating, and rewriting work for other writers.
